Hognose Feeding Guide

As a general guide you should be feeding your hognose smaller meals more often rather than less frequent larger meals.

Below are some general guidelines:

  • If the snake is eating hopper or bigger sized mice I feed them once a week on Sundays.
  • If the snake is eating smaller than hopper sized mice i feed them twice a week on Thursdays and Sundays.

Food Size:

  • Hatchling up to 7 grams: Pinkie head, mouse tail, fuzzy feet (1-1.5g), or small pieces of salmon. Twice a week
  • 8 to 14 grams: One small pinky (1-2g). Twice a week
  • 15 to 29 grams: One large pinky (2-4g) Twice a week
  • 30 to 64 grams: One fuzzy (4-6g). Twice a week
  • 65 to 250 grams: One hopper (7-12g). Once a week
  • 250+ grams: One small adult mouse (13-17g) every 7 days (Note: if they get big enough you can move to Adult mice)
  • Breeding Females: Smaller meal than usual twice a week.

The sizing of these mice categories can vary greatly at times, as such this guide should be very flexible and based more on how your animal compares to the prey itself.

Some snakes require smaller meals than what you would think and some prefer larger. Learning your Hognose and its preferences will help you understand what is best for them.
